My project was all about researching three distinct types of deaths that plague law enforcement officers. The research I conducted was specific to homicide, suicide, and accidental deaths of officers. The purpose was to see what information could be obtained about these types and to see statistics of which occur more and if there is anything that can be done to stop them from happening. I have completed the research that I wanted to do, however I do intend to follow up on this and do more in depth research, as well as a broader focus in the criminal justice system.

Through my research I discovered that out of the three types of deaths I researched that the most common type among officers and the criminal justice system as a whole, was suicide. The next being accidental and the last homicide. Most of the deaths related to suicide are from those who believe there is nothing that they can do and that they have no way out. They believe they are too far in to change career and too far away from retirement. Those involved in the accidental deaths are because they get comfortable with what they do that they take more risks, that can turn deadly. The homicides have slowly decreased in numbers over the years and as expected the weapon most used were handguns.
